Orient Star was founded in Japan in 1951, the same year that Tama Keiki was renamed Orient Watch Co. The name, 'Shining Star', expressed the ambition to create mechanical watches that stood out for their design, components, and manufacturing.
Throughout its history, the brand has developed a highly recognizable technical identity. The 46 movement series, introduced in 1971, served as its base for decades, and in 1996 the power reserve indicator —now one of the features most associated with Orient Star— was added to its design.
In 2017, Orient Watch was integrated into Seiko Epson Corporation, which now handles the planning and manufacturing of Orient Star and Orient. The brand remains focused on Made in Japan mechanical watchmaking, combining in-house production, precision, finishes, and designs ranging from classicism to contemporary skeleton styles.
