Founded in Stockholm in 2006 by Ben Gorham, a former professional basketball player with a Fine Arts background, Byredo is a high-end European luxury goods house, celebrated primarily for its austere Scandinavian-style niche perfumery creations.

What sets Byredo apart in the fragrance industry is its minimalist and conceptual approach. The brand’s formulas are defined by a deliberately short, curated list of ingredients, eschewing the dense olfactory pyramids of mainstream perfumery in favor of pure, abstract accords that evoke memories or emotions—such as the scent of photographic paper, leather, or fresh linens.

The bottle design is a manifesto of functional simplicity: a symmetrical clear glass bottle topped with a heavy black magnetic stopper. Its shape was designed to divert attention away from traditional commercial packaging and center the entire sensory experience exclusively on the fragrance and the typographic brand name on the label.
