Grand Seiko

Japanese high-end watchmaking, exceptional precision and finishes.

Discover the story

Founded in Japan in 1960 by Seiko Corporation with the explicit goal of building "the perfect watch" in terms of precision, durability, and legibility, Grand Seiko was established as a global independent luxury brand in 2017, operating its workshops in Shizukuishi and Shinshu.

The major technical innovation that sets Grand Seiko apart from every other luxury brand is the development of the Spring Drive movement (launched in 1999). This hybrid mechanism combines the power source of a traditional mechanical watch (mainspring) with a tri-synchronization regulator controlled by a quartz crystal, resulting in a fully continuous seconds hand movement (no jumps or ticking) and extraordinary precision of ±1 second per day.

From an artisanal standpoint, Grand Seiko cases stand out for their Zaratsu polishing, a manual technique carried out by master craftsmen on tin discs that creates perfectly flat, optically distortion-free mirror surfaces, inspired by the geometry and finish of traditional Japanese swords (katana).
