Jean Paul Gaultier

Irreverence, freedom, and French haute couture.

Discover the story

Jean Paul Gaultier began presenting his own collections in 1976, and since then has built one of the most recognizable universes in French fashion. Without traditional academic fashion training, he developed a career based on blending cultures, genders, social codes, and popular references with immense creative freedom.

The corset reimagined as outerwear, Breton stripes, transformed tailoring, and his approach to questioning the boundaries between masculinity and femininity became core codes of the house. In the mid-1990s, Gaultier brought that vision to the realm of haute couture, where artisanal savoir-faire further amplified his experimental capabilities.

The house has maintained an inclusive, provocative attitude that views difference as a source of beauty. Since 2021, Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture has invited various designers to temporarily reinterpret the house’s legacy, keeping its spirit of collaboration and transformation alive.
