Penhaligon’s

Historic, sophisticated British perfumery.

Discover the story

Founded in London in 1870 by British barber William Penhaligon, Penhaligon's is a historic British perfumery house. Its first fragrance, Hammam Bouquet (1872), was formulated after drawing inspiration from the spicy, steamy scents of the Turkish bath adjacent to his Jermyn Street barbershop.

What sets Penhaligon's apart is its Victorian storytelling paired with traditional British botanical distillation. The house holds multiple Royal Warrants granted by the British Royal Family over more than a century as official suppliers of perfumes and grooming products to the monarchy.

Visually, the bottles retain the original shape conceived by the founder: a clear glass bottle with a ball stopper wrapped in a fabric bow or ribbon around the neck. Iconic collections like The Portraits use heavy, hand-carved metal stoppers featuring Victorian animal figures that tell a satirical story of the British aristocracy.
