Pleats Please Issey Miyake originated from the pleating research that Issey Miyake began developing in the late 1980s. After numerous experiments and stage applications, the line was announced in 1993 and launched its first independent spring-summer 1994 collection.

Its core innovation is first crafting the garment and then applying the pleating process. This technique creates lightweight, stretchy pieces that are easy to store, machine-washable, and move with the body without losing its signature structure.
